Your BTVPOA membership makes us “FIREWISE”
BTVPOA is a “Firewise Community”
Your BTVPOA membership ensures that we can retain the important FIREWISE designation.
Creating defensible space is both law and a proven way to help protect our properties and our community. To create this defensible space, BTVPOA actively supports CAL FIRE’s fire prevention program with a local lot inspections program. The success of our lot inspections has resulted in Big Trees Village being designated a “Firewise Community,” a national program that increases education, awareness, and fire prevention activities in wildland interface areas.
How we qualify as a FIREWISE COMMUNITY
We recruit volunteers who have homes in Big Trees Village to do lot inspections, help coordinate the program within Big Trees Village, and serve as a liaison between CAL FIRE and Ebbetts Pass Fire, lot cleaning services, and property owners to ensure the community is cleaned in a timely manner.
All of the hours that are spent cleaning homeowners’ lots as well as our biannual recreation center member workdays contribute to our FIREWISE designation.
BTV Volunteer Lot Inspectors Needed!
Please consider helping make us FIREWISE. If you like to walk, being a lot inspector is an easy way to contribute to the Big Trees Village community. It just takes about 3 hours, no experience needed! Call the Association office at 795-1971; or email manager@bigtreesvillage.org. Each year 18 teams of volunteers, all property owners in Big Trees Village, conduct inspections of all the improved lots in our community, i.e., lots with homes on them. If a property is determined to be out of compliance with guidelines that are based on CAL FIRE requirements, the property owner is reminded by the BTVPOA to take appropriate action to create adequate defensible space and do his/her part to help safeguard the owner’s home and the entire community.
